Fluid bed dryer is most suitable for drying granular, crystalline, coarse or similar materials I pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, dyes, food and allied industries. Advantages of short dryig time, uniform drying, rapid exchange of granules, low drying temperature.
OPERATION:
The wet material is introduced into the dryer as batch of material in product container which is provided with air distribution plate and Dutch weave. The blower creates induced draft and fresh air is sucked into the unit. After filtration, clean air passes theough heating elements. This hot air passes through the product container creating turbulence in the product and hence the product moves up and down in the product container. Due to this the heat transfer is quick and the product is dried fast appreciable loss of heat. Filter bags prevent particles escaping from dryer.
HEATING:
Fluid bed dryers can be supplied in electric heating, steam heating or hot water/oil; circulation system. Generally dryers bigger than heating is more economical.
DRYING TIME:
The drying time depends upon various factors such as physical properties of material, moisture (free moisture or water of crystallization), drying temperature etc,. Generally pharmaceutical granules or crystal containing free moisture of about 20 to 25% can be easily dried in about 40 to 50 minutes at a temperature of about 800C.
SAFETY:
FBD is provided with explosion flap and pressure relief valve, in case of excess pressure the pressure is relived through the explosion vent located o the rear/top of the unit.
